The Center for Ethics at the University of Zurich is a unique initiative in Switzerland, involving the faculties of Theology, Philosophy, and Medicine. It conducts and coordinates ethics education and research at the University of Zurich. The Institute for Social Ethics (ISE) is part of the Theological Faculty and is engaged in research and education on theological ethics as well as issues in theoretical and applied ethics. The current work of the Institute is characterized by the combination of ethical foundational reflection and practice-oriented issues.
The Work and Research Center for Ethics (AfE) is a department within the Faculty of Philosophy dedicated to research, education, and public outreach in the field of philosophical ethics. It includes the chairs of General Ethics and Applied Ethics, the chair of Political Philosophy, as well as an SNF-funded professorship and an assistant professorship for Political Theory.
The Institute for Biomedical Ethics and Medical History (IBME) is responsible for the ethics education in human and dental medicine. It also sees itself as a service institution providing ethical consultation, both in clinical and academic settings, as well as for policy and the public.
